The dome and the square around it
Highlights
- A facade finished centuries after the dome
- Three buildings, one planned group
- The dome seen rising above rooftops
- Centuries of building traced in one square
- A wider view of a familiar landmark
About this tour
This longer session places Brunelleschi's dome inside the wider square it sits in. You see the cathedral's marble facade, added long after the dome, the Baptistery and Campanile nearby, and a wider view of the dome rising above the rooftops. The camera moves between close facade detail and distant rooftop views.
We spend time on each building's exterior before stepping back for the wider view, since the relationship between the three is easy to miss up close. I explain the different centuries each part was finished in, and take questions as we move through the square.
It suits anyone who wants the fuller picture of the Duomo complex rather than the dome alone. It also works well as a longer first session in Florence.

Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Florence before heading out.
-
Duomo facade 21 min
The camera moves along the cathedral's patterned marble facade, and I explain that most of what you see today was actually finished centuries after the dome itself.
-
Piazza del Duomo 21 min
Turning across the square, you see the Baptistery and Campanile alongside the cathedral, and I explain how the three buildings were planned as a connected group.
-
Dome from a distance 21 min
From a side street a short walk away, the camera frames the dome rising above the surrounding rooftops, a view that shows its true scale against the city.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Florence: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Lampredotto and San Lorenzo, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
