Four lions at the heart of the old town
Highlights
- Four stone lions up close
- A fountain four centuries old
- Inside a church three empires shaped
- A patron saint's relic explained
- One square, a longer history
About this tour
This session stays on one small stretch of the old town, from the Morosini Fountain to the doors of Agios Titos. You see the carved stone lions that give the square its name and then move into a church that has carried Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman changes on the same walls. Two landmarks, a short walk apart, tell a longer story about who has ruled this city.
I start close on the fountain before pulling back to show the whole square, then walk you slowly through the church interior, pausing wherever there is something worth a longer look. Questions come whenever they arise, and I keep the pace unhurried so the details have time to register.
This suits anyone who prefers one place explained well over many places rushed. It also works as a gentle first session before exploring the rest of the old town alone.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Heraklion before heading out.
-
Morosini Fountain 21 min
You see the four worn stone lions up close, water still running from their mouths after four centuries, and I explain which basin was added later than the others.
-
Agios Titos Church 21 min
The camera moves inside the church, quiet and normal for filming, and I show where the skull relic of Crete's patron saint is kept and how the building survived three different rulers.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Heraklion: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dakos and Old Town / Lions Square, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
