Inside the ramparts of Petrovaradin
Highlights
- A clock built to be read from the river
- Tunnels running for kilometres underground
- Habsburg military engineering, explained up close
- The fortress that once guarded the Danube
- A gallery entrance still partly sealed
About this tour
This session looks at Petrovaradin Fortress from its most recognisable feature down to what lies beneath it. You see the clock tower's unusual face up close, then the entrance to the tunnel network that runs for kilometres under the ramparts. It stays within the fortress walls rather than crossing back into the old town.
I start with a short sound check, then move between the two stops at an easy pace, since the fortress rewards a slower look. Questions about the tunnels come up on almost every call, and I leave time to answer as many as I can.
This suits anyone curious about military engineering or the history of the river crossing rather than a general city overview. It also works well as a first stop before other sessions in Novi Sad.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Novi Sad before heading out.
-
Petrovaradin Clock Tower 21 min
The camera holds on the clock face at the top of the fortress, and I explain why the long hand marks the hour and the short one the minutes, a design meant to be read by boatmen far out on the Danube.
-
Underground Galleries Entrance 21 min
You see the sealed mouth of one of the fortress's underground galleries, and I describe how far the Habsburg engineers dug beneath the ramparts and why so much of it still cannot be entered.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Novi Sad: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Riblja čorba (fish soup) and Stari Grad (Old Town), worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Belgrade time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
