Gamle Stavanger's white wooden lanes
Highlights
- White wooden houses from the 1700s
- Door knockers and shutters, still original
- A townscape that escaped the fires
- Narrow lanes just up from the harbour
- One of Europe's best-preserved wooden districts
About this tour
This session walks Gamle Stavanger, the old town's narrow lanes of white wooden houses. You see the eighteenth-century buildings up close and small surviving details like door knockers and shutters. Eirin explains why this particular area escaped the fires and redevelopment that changed much of the rest of Stavanger.
She moves slowly through the lanes, since the houses sit close together and small details are easy to miss walking normally. Questions about who lives in the area today come up often, and she answers from her own experience nearby.
This suits anyone who has taken Eirin's Fargegaten session and wants the older, quieter version of the same city. It also suits anyone interested in preserved wooden townscapes generally.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
