Clock Tower, Covered Stairway and Church on the Hill
Highlights
- A clock tower guarding the gate
- A stairway built for schoolchildren
- A church at the top of the hill
- Saxon gravestones, read aloud
- The whole citadel in one climb
About this tour
This session follows the climb from the Clock Tower to the Church on the Hill, the two ends of Sighișoara's small hilltop citadel. You see the fourteenth-century tower guarding the main gate, then climb the wooden-roofed Covered Stairway built for the town's schoolchildren, finishing at the Gothic church and its Saxon cemetery. The whole walk covers only a few hundred metres, all of it uphill.
We open with a short sound check at the Clock Tower. I keep a steady pace up the stairway and take questions about the citadel's Saxon history as we climb. Afterwards I send a short note on the gravestones and names we passed.
This suits anyone wanting a full sense of the citadel in one session. It also works well as a first walk before the shorter, lighter sessions elsewhere in town.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Sighisoara before heading out.
-
Clock Tower 21 min
The camera looks up at the fourteenth-century clock tower guarding the citadel's main gate, and I explain how its figures still turn with the hours.
-
Covered Stairway 21 min
We climb the wooden-roofed stairway of over one hundred and seventy steps, built so pupils could reach their school without the winter weather stopping them.
-
Church on the Hill 21 min
The route finishes at the Gothic church on top of the hill, and I point out the old German-language gravestones scattered through the surrounding cemetery.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Sighisoara: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ciorbă de burtă (tripe soup) and Cetate, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
