Banská Štiavnica's sloping streets, camera in hand
Highlights
- A square that slopes like no other
- Renaissance arcades of the old mining office
- Stone marks left by imperial weighing scales
- A wooden tower that once woke miners
- A town built entirely around its mines
About this tour
This session follows Banská Štiavnica's old town from the bottom of Trojičné námestie up toward the Kammerhof and the Klopačka watchtower. You see the square's steep slope, the Renaissance arcades of the old mining office and the wooden tower that once called miners to work. It is a short, close look at a town built entirely around its mines.
I start low on the square and climb slowly, since the streets here reward a steady pace more than a quick pass. You can ask questions at any point, and I stay on each stop until they are answered. A short list of what we covered follows once we finish.
This suits anyone curious about a small mining town that shaped Central European mining science for centuries. It also works well before or after a Bratislava or Vienna trip, since both are a short ride away.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Banská Štiavnica before heading out.
-
Trojičné námestie 21 min
You see the sloping main square from its lower corner, burgher houses climbing toward the plague column at the top, a shape almost no other Slovak square keeps.
-
Kammerhof Arcades 21 min
The camera moves along the Renaissance arcades where the imperial mining office once ran the whole district, and I point out the old stone weighing marks still cut into the walls.
-
Klopačka Watchtower 21 min
From the street below, you see the wooden knocking tower that once woke miners for their shift, its plank walls unusually intact for a building this old.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Banská Štiavnica: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bryndzové halušky and Staré Mesto, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
