Highlights

  • Bells that ring an hour early, on purpose
  • A siege said to have ended by a trick
  • Twin spires restored long after they were built
  • One of the city's best-known quirks
  • A short story with a real cathedral behind it

About this tour

This session covers Petrov Cathedral and the legend behind its bells, which strike noon a full hour early. You see the cathedral's twin spires and the tower that houses the bells themselves, along with the story of the siege the early ringing is said to have ended. It is a short, story-led look at one of the city's best-known quirks.

I start outside the cathedral and move towards the tower for the second stop, timing the session so the story lands clearly before the bells themselves might interrupt. Questions come as we go, and I am happy to repeat the story's details if anything is unclear. A short note on the cathedral's opening hours follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone who enjoys a good local legend alongside real history. It also works well as a short first session before a longer walk through the old town.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Brno before heading out.

  2. Petrov Cathedral exterior 21 min

The camera takes in the cathedral's twin spires, and I explain how the building was restored in the Gothic style centuries after it was first built.

  3. The bell tower 21 min

We look up at the tower itself, and I tell the story of why its bells strike noon at eleven, a trick that is said to have ended a 17th-century siege.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Brno: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Svíčková (marinated beef in cream sauce) and Veveří, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Prague time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
