About this tour

This session stays outside the Museum of the Second World War, looking at its striking architecture and explaining what waits inside. You see the sunken courtyard and tilted tower, the approach path, and the view back towards the old town from the tower's base. It describes rather than walks through the exhibition itself.

I start with a sound check at the entrance plaza, then move around the courtyard describing the building's design and the exhibition inside. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short reading list afterwards for anyone planning their own visit.

This suits anyone with a serious interest in twentieth-century history who wants context before or after their own visit inside. It also works well alongside a longer old town history session.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Gdansk before heading out.

  2. The Museum's Sunken Courtyard 21 min

You see the museum's striking sunken courtyard and tilted tower from outside, and I explain the design choices behind the building itself.

  3. The Approach and Entrance 21 min

The camera moves along the approach path, and I describe what the permanent exhibition inside covers, from the war's outbreak to its aftermath across Europe.

  4. A View from the Tower Base 21 min

From the base of the leaning tower, I point back towards the old town and explain why the museum was placed here, close to where the war's first shots were fired.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Gdansk: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bigos and Main Town (Główne Miasto), worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Warsaw time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
