Highlights

  • Walls that once defended the whole peninsula

  • A salt trade that outgrew the town's size
  • Three histories, one short walk
  • Piran's identity explained beyond the harbour view

About this tour

This longer session traces three sides of Piran's history: the defensive walls above the old town, the house where Tartini was born, and the salt trade that once gave the town its wealth. You see how a small peninsula built walls, produced a composer and shipped salt across the region, three stories that all still shape the town today. It moves between the hillside and the harbour.

I take the climb slowly since the walls need a steady shot from below, then return to the flatter square and harbour for the remaining stops, answering questions on each topic as it comes up.

This suits anyone who wants Piran's history covered from more than one angle. It also suits viewers with a specific interest in either music history or trade history.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Piran before heading out.

  2. Piran Town Walls 21 min

You climb toward the medieval walls above the old town, and I explain which sections still stand from the original defensive line built to protect the peninsula.

  3. Tartini's Birth House 21 min

The camera returns to the square to reach the house where the violinist Giuseppe Tartini was born in 1692, and I describe how the town still shapes its identity around his name.

  4. Salt Trade Corner 21 min

We finish near the harbour, where I explain how sea salt produced by hand at the nearby pans once made this small town economically important far beyond its size.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Piran: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Brodet (Istrian fish stew) and Punta, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Ljubljana time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
