Sforza Castle and the park behind it
Highlights
- A fortress turned into museums
- Brick towers from the fifteenth century
- A park built on old walls
- The Arena, framed by trees
- Sforza Castle's courtyard, up close
About this tour
This session covers Sforza Castle and the park that grew up on its old fortifications. You see the fifteenth-century courtyard and its brick towers, then walk into Parco Sempione, where the Arena and a triumphal arch sit among the trees. It traces how a fortress on the edge of the city became a park at its centre.
We start with a sound check in the courtyard, since it can echo. I move through the gate into the park for the second stop and answer questions about the castle's museums or the park's layout as they come up. A short reading note on the castle's history follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in Renaissance fortifications or a quieter walk away from the shopping streets. It also works well paired with a session further into the park.

From the main courtyard the camera takes in the brick towers and the fortress's Renaissance additions, and I explain how a defensive stronghold ended up holding several of the city's museums.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
