Leipzig's historic passages, arcade by arcade
Highlights
- Tiled artwork inside a trading courtyard
- Passages built to link old fair halls
- Cart marks worn into a stone floor
- A covered route through old Leipzig
- Three arcades, one trading history
About this tour
This session moves through three of Leipzig's covered trading passages, from Specks Hof to a quieter arcade nearby and on to Barthels Hof. You see tiled artwork added to one courtyard tracing its own history, then the passages that once linked the city's trade fair halls together. The walk finishes at a passage still marked by centuries of cart traffic on its stone floor.
We begin with a short sound check at the first courtyard. I move steadily between the three passages, since each one is fairly compact, and take questions about the trade fair history throughout. Afterwards I send a short list of the passages and a little on each one's age.
This suits anyone interested in Leipzig's history as a trade fair city rather than only its music and history sites. It also works well as a rainy-day session, since the whole route stays covered.

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Leipzig before heading out.

Specks Hof 17 min
We move through one of the city's oldest trading courtyards, and I point out the tiled artwork added during a later renovation that traces the courtyard's own history.

Städtisches Kaufhaus arcade 17 min
The camera passes through a quieter passage nearby, and I explain how these covered courtyards once linked the city's trade fair halls together.
-
Barthels Hof 17 min
We finish at a passage still carrying the marks of horse-drawn carts on its stone floor, and I point out the old loading doors above street level.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Leipzig: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Leipziger Lerche (shortcrust pastry with almond filling) and Connewitz, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
