I grew up near Augustusplatz and I still think it is the best place in the city to explain how Leipzig rebuilt itself after the war, since both the opera house and the Gewandhaus went up again almost exactly where they stood before. On camera I like starting wide on the square before moving into the narrower passages nearby, so you feel the change in scale. I trained originally in local history and I enjoy the small details, like a tiled floor or a carved doorway, more than the grand facades most guides focus on. I keep sessions warm and unhurried and always leave room for questions along the way.
