Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs
Highlights
- A palace of pink and white stone
- Centuries as Venice's government seat
- An enclosed bridge with a grim name
- The last view before prison
- Power and punishment, side by side
About this tour
This session covers the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs beside it. You see the palace's patterned stonework, once the seat of Venice's government, then move along the canal to the enclosed bridge linking the palace to the old prison. It is a short session on power and punishment in one corner of the city.
We start with a sound check facing the palace, since the waterfront can be busy with boats and crowds. I move along to the bridge for the second stop and take your questions about the palace's history or the prison as we go. A short reading list follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in Venetian government or its darker history. It also works well paired with a session inside the basilica nearby.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
