A qvevri wine cellar under Old Tbilisi
Highlights
- Clay qvevri buried in a cellar floor
- Wine fermenting underground for months
- A method centuries old, still used
- A courtyard cellar under Old Tbilisi
- A short, focused wine explainer
About this tour
This short session shows a qvevri wine cellar tucked under a courtyard in Old Tbilisi. You see the buried clay vessels and hear how this centuries-old method still works today. It stays in the cellar for the whole call.
We spend the time in the cellar moving between the vessels and the press, since the point is understanding the method rather than moving around outside. I explain the process and answer questions about the wine itself.
It suits anyone curious about Georgian wine beyond the label, and travellers who want a short, specific stop rather than a longer tasting session.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.
Questions about this tour
What will the session cover?
The guide walks through Tbilisi, showing you The buried qvevri vessels and The cellar's wooden press live on camera, plus whatever else you would like to see.
What happens if my connection drops?

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
