Abanotubani, the sulphur bathhouse quarter
Highlights
- Brick domes over the bathhouses
- A natural hot spring, still surfacing
- A district built around its water
- Steam and light through the domes
- The city's oldest working quarter
About this tour
This session covers Abanotubani, the bathhouse district built over natural hot sulphur springs. You see the domed rooftops from the street and the spring source that first drew people here. It moves between two or three points in the small quarter.
We walk slowly between the domes and the spring, since the district is compact and rewards a close look. I explain the history plainly and take questions as they arise.
It suits anyone curious about the city's oldest working district, and travellers who want history explained on the ground rather than in a museum.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
