St Petri Cathedral's twin towers and the lead cellar
Highlights
- Twin towers replacing one original
- A cellar with naturally preserved bodies
- Centuries of rebuilding explained
- A cathedral square view
- History stranger than most churches offer
About this tour
This session looks at St Petri Cathedral's exterior, its twin towers and the entrance to the Bleikeller lead cellar beneath it. You see the towers from the square and the doorway to one of Bremen's stranger historical curiosities. Mira explains the building's long construction history.
The session covers two points around the cathedral grounds at a measured pace. Mira answers questions about the towers and the cellar as they come up.
This suits anyone drawn to church architecture or unusual local history. It works well alongside her Town Hall and Roland session.

The camera looks up at the cathedral's two towers from the square, and I explain how the current pair replaced an earlier single-tower design.

I stand near the entrance to the Bleikeller, the lead cellar, and describe how the dry air there has kept several bodies naturally preserved for centuries.

A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bremer Knipp (spiced meat and grain sausage) and Ostertorviertel (Das Viertel), worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
