  • Split's harbour from the highest point

About this tour

This session climbs Split's cathedral bell tower, starting outside where the cathedral itself is built directly around Diocletian's own mausoleum. You see the building's exterior and how an emperor's tomb was converted into a church, then the different construction periods visible during the climb, and finally the palace roofs and harbour from the top. It is one of the few spots to see the whole old town laid out at once.

We start outside with a sound check, then climb stop by stop, pausing for breath and questions rather than rushing the stairs. A short list of what is visible from the top follows once we are back down.

It suits anyone who wants Split's layout explained from above before walking it at street level. It also suits an early or late booking, when the light across the rooftops works best.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Split before heading out.

  2. Cathedral exterior 17 min

The camera looks up at the cathedral, built around Diocletian's own mausoleum, and I explain how an emperor's tomb became a Christian church.

  3. The climb up 17 min

We climb the bell tower's narrow stairs, and I point out the different building periods visible in the stonework as we go.

  4. The view from the top 17 min

At the top I turn the camera slowly across the palace roofs, the Riva and the sea beyond.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Split: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dalmatian pršut and Diocletian's Palace, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
