About this tour

This session covers Hlavná ulica, Košice's long pedestrianised main square and the historic centre of the first town in the world granted its own coat of arms. You see the square from its lower end and then the Baroque plague column partway up, with its carved saints added by different trade guilds. It is a short introduction to the square most other sessions here pass through.

I walk the length of the square at an easy pace, explaining the coat of arms story near the start since it surprises most visitors. Questions come in throughout, and I answer them as we walk rather than stopping the session. A short note on the square's layout follows once we finish.

This suits anyone wanting a quick orientation to Košice's old town before a longer session elsewhere. It also works well as a first booking for a first-time visitor.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Košice before heading out.

  2. Hlavná ulica, Lower End 15 min

You see the long pedestrianised square from its southern end, and I explain how this town received the first coat of arms ever granted to a town, in 1369.

  3. Immaculata Column 15 min

Midway up the square, the camera holds on the Baroque plague column, and I point out the carved saints added by different guilds over time.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Košice: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Klobása and Ťahanovce, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Bratislava time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
