About this tour

This session stops at the mosaic monument built into a mountainside above the Georgian Military Road. You see the curved wall's tiled scenes up close, then the valley and the road's switchbacks from the platform beside it. It is one of the most photographed stops on the whole road, and this session explains why.

We start close on the tiles themselves, since the detail is easy to miss from a distance, then step back for the wider valley view. I keep the pace relaxed here and answer questions about both the artwork and the road below.

It suits anyone travelling the Georgian Military Road who wants the stop explained rather than just photographed, and it pairs well with a Dariali Gorge session earlier the same trip.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Kazbegi before heading out.

  2. The mosaic monument 21 min

The camera moves along the curved mosaic monument built into the mountainside, and I point out the scenes from Georgian and Russian history worked into the tiles.

  3. The valley below the pass 21 min

From the platform beside the monument the whole valley and the road's switchbacks spread out below, and I name the peaks visible on a clear day.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Kazbegi: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Georgian wine and Stepantsminda centre, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Tbilisi time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
