Arco da Vila, into Faro's old town
Highlights
- A gate built over a Moorish arch
- Storks nesting on top of it
- Streets following an old Moorish layout
- Faro's old town, from its entrance
- A quiet start away from the beach
About this tour
This session begins at the Arco da Vila, the gate that marks the entrance into Faro's old town, and follows the streets just beyond it. You see the gate's neoclassical facade built over an older Moorish arch, then the narrow streets that open up once you pass through. Storks nest on top of the gate for most of the year, visible from below.
We check the connection facing the gate, then move through it into the old town for the second stop, pausing for questions about the storks and the street layout. I send a short list of names once the session ends.
It suits first-time visitors deciding where to start in Faro, and anyone curious about how a small Algarve city keeps a proper walled centre behind its waterfront. This session covers the gate and the streets just inside it, not the full old town in one go.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Faro before heading out.
-
The gate itself 21 min
The camera looks up at the Arco da Vila's neoclassical facade built over a Moorish arch, and I point out the storks that nest on the top of it most of the year.
-
Through to the square 21 min
We pass under the arch into the narrowing streets beyond, and I explain how the old town's layout still follows its Moorish street pattern.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Faro: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Choco frito (fried cuttlefish) and Waterfront, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
