About this tour

This session covers the Rialto Bridge and the market streets behind it. You see the bridge's single stone arch, built to replace an earlier wooden one that kept failing, then walk the narrow streets behind it, still marked by old trade names. It is a street-level look at the commercial heart of Venice, old and current together.

We start with a sound check on the bridge, since it can be crowded even early in the day. I move into the streets for the second stop and take your questions about the market's history as we go. A short list of the old trade names follows by message afterwards.

It suits anyone with an interest in Venice's working history rather than only its grand buildings. It also works well as an early session before the streets fill up.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Venice before heading out.

  2. Rialto Bridge 21 min

The camera crosses the oldest of the Grand Canal's four bridges, and I explain how its single stone arch replaced a wooden bridge that had collapsed more than once.

  3. Rialto market streets 21 min

We walk the narrow streets behind it, and I point out the shop signs and old trade names that still mark what each street once sold.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Venice: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Sarde in saor and San Marco, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

    Great tour, small hiccups

Very good overall. The route was lovely, a little more time at the last stop would have been perfect.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
