Porta Borsari, a gate on the old Roman road
Highlights
- A gate marking a Roman road
- Two rows of arched windows
- A street unchanged for centuries
- Verona's Roman layout, still in use
- A short walk through deep history
About this tour
This session covers Porta Borsari, a Roman gate that once marked the main entrance to Verona. You see its two rows of arched windows up close, then walk a short distance along the street beyond it, still following the route laid out by Roman surveyors. It is a short session on how much of the city's modern layout traces back nearly two thousand years.
We start with a sound check facing the gate, since the street can be busy with traffic. I move along the street for the second stop and take your questions about Roman road-building as we go. A short reading note follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in Roman urban planning. It also works well paired with a session at the Arena or the Roman Theatre.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
