About this tour

This session shows the crater lakes of Sete Cidades from the rim down to the water's edge, including the small village that sits inside the caldera itself. You see the blue and green lakes side by side and the stone bridge that divides them. Ana explains the geology behind the colour difference as the light changes.

After a sound check at the main viewpoint, the walk drops down through the caldera to the shoreline and finishes in the village itself, timed so the light is usually best by the final stop. Ana is upfront on camera about cloud cover, since the lakes can vanish from view within minutes on this island.

This suits anyone drawn to volcanic landscapes and dramatic colour. It also works well for viewers deciding whether to make the trip out from Ponta Delgada themselves.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Ponta Delgada before heading out.

  2. Crater rim viewpoint 21 min

The camera looks down from the rim of the caldera at two lakes side by side, one appearing blue and the other green depending on the light and the minerals in the water.

  3. Lagoa Azul shoreline 21 min

Down at the water's edge, I show the arched stone bridge that separates the two lakes and explain the local story of a prince and a shepherdess used to account for the colours.

  4. Village of Sete Cidades 21 min

The small village inside the caldera sits right on the lake shore, and I walk along its quiet lanes to show how few people actually live inside an active volcanic crater.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Ponta Delgada: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Cozido das Furnas and Centro Histórico, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Azores time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
