About this tour

This session walks the sculpture trail at Ekebergparken, a wooded park above the fjord with contemporary sculpture set among older trees. You see the woodland path, a viewpoint linked to Edvard Munch, and bronze pieces placed to be come across rather than displayed. Ingrid connects the newer sculpture here back to her own training.

She moves slowly along the trail, stopping whenever a piece comes into view rather than on a fixed schedule. The viewpoint gets the longest pause, since the view itself needs time before any commentary.

This suits anyone who enjoyed Vigeland Park and wants a quieter, more recent counterpart to it. It also suits anyone interested in the Munch connection to this particular stretch of the fjord.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Oslo before heading out.

  2. Woodland sculpture trail 17 min

The camera follows a path through the trees where contemporary sculptures sit among older oaks, and I explain how the park opened in 2013 on land that had been a public green space for over a century before that.

  3. Fjord viewpoint 17 min

From the ridge you see the whole of the inner fjord and the islands beyond it, a view Edvard Munch is thought to have used for parts of The Scream.

  4. Bronze figures among the trees 17 min

Further along the trail I point out a smaller bronze piece half hidden by the woodland, and explain why several works here are deliberately placed to be come across rather than displayed openly.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Oslo: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Fårikål (lamb and cabbage stew) and Aker Brygge and Tjuvholmen, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Oslo time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
