What the harbour has seen from Firka's walls
Highlights
- Open sea beyond the harbour mouth
- The whole quay from above
- An old town skyline, traced
- A single view, three directions
- A fortress expert's full picture
About this tour
This longer session takes in the full view from Firka Fortress, from open sea to the harbour and the old town skyline behind it. You see the whole layout of Chania from a single elevated position, explained by someone who has studied the fortress closely. It stays on the fortress walls throughout.
I turn slowly at each stop so the camera captures the full sweep of the view, explaining what is visible in each direction before moving on. Questions come naturally as new landmarks come into view.
This suits anyone who wants the whole town explained from above before exploring it at street level. It also works well as a longer, unhurried session.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later
Not included
- Internet connection
- Travel to the city
Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Chania before heading out.
-
Fortress walls, sea side 17 min
You see the open sea beyond the harbour mouth, and I explain what ships would have looked like approaching from this direction centuries ago.
-
Harbour view from the fortress 17 min
The camera turns toward the harbour itself, and I point out how the whole curve of the quay looks different from this elevated position.
-
Old town skyline 17 min
From the highest point I trace the rooftops and domes of the old town, explaining which buildings are visible only from up here.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Chania: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Raki (tsikoudia) and Old Town, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- Times are shown in Athens time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
