  • A parliament building since the 1500s
  • Three levels of stone arcades
  • A courtyard barely changed in centuries
  • Renaissance government, still in use
  • One building, five centuries of history

About this tour

This session looks at one of Graz's oldest surviving government buildings. You see the sixteenth-century Renaissance facade facing the main square, then move into the arcaded courtyard behind it. It stays within this one building rather than covering the wider square.

I explain the building's continuous use as a seat of government first, then walk into the courtyard to show how little the arcades have changed. Questions about the building's history are welcome throughout.

This suits anyone interested in how a single building can serve the same purpose for five centuries. It also works well paired with the Hauptplatz walk just outside its doors.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide

  • A short list of places to visit later

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Graz before heading out.

  2. Landhaus Facade 21 min

You see the Renaissance facade of the regional parliament building, built in the sixteenth century and still in use for the same purpose today.

  3. Arcaded Courtyard 21 min

Inside the courtyard, three levels of stone arcades surround an open square, and I explain how little the space has changed since it was first built.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Graz: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Steirisches Wurzelfleisch and Jakomini, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Vienna time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
