About this tour

This session covers one of Josefov's surviving synagogues and a quiet street nearby, both shaped by a redevelopment that transformed most of the neighbourhood a century ago. You see the synagogue's exterior, spared from that clearance, then a street that hints at what the wider area once looked like. It is a focused look at what survived and why.

I move at a steady pace between the two stops, explaining the redevelopment's history as clearly as I can. Questions come as we go, and I am happy to compare the street to old photographs if you ask. A short reading list follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone who has already visited the cemetery and wants the fuller neighbourhood picture. It also suits anyone interested in how a historic district can partly survive modernisation.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Prague before heading out.

  2. A synagogue exterior 15 min

The camera takes in one of Josefov's surviving synagogues, and I explain how it escaped the neighbourhood's redevelopment a century ago.

  3. A quiet Josefov street 15 min

We move along a quieter street nearby, and I describe what the neighbourhood looked like before that redevelopment changed most of it.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Prague: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Goulash with bread dumplings and Josefov, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Prague time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
