About this tour

This session follows Pigeon Valley as the sun comes up over the rock walls. You see the carved openings used for centuries to house pigeons, then the camera moves down to the valley floor as the light changes the colour of the rock layers. The timing is built around the sunrise rather than a fixed clock.

I open with a sound check at the overlook, then we move down into the valley while you ask questions about the pigeon holes and their use. I slow down as the light shifts, since the colours change quickly in the first half hour. Afterwards I send a short note on what we saw and when.

This suits an early riser who wants a quiet, visual session away from the busier valleys nearby. It also suits anyone interested in how the landscape here was shaped for practical farming reasons.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cappadocia before heading out.

  2. Pigeon Valley Overlook 21 min

The camera looks down into a valley lined with small carved openings in the rock face. I explain how these pigeon holes were cut by farmers centuries ago to collect droppings used as fertiliser.

  3. Valley Floor Path 21 min

You follow a quiet path along the valley floor as the rock walls catch the early light. I point out the different colours in the layered rock as the sun rises higher.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Cappadocia: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Turkish tea and Göreme, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Istanbul time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
