Forte da Ponta da Bandeira, guarding the harbour mouth
Highlights
- A drawbridge to a harbour fort
- Ramparts once lined with cannon
- 17th-century coastal defence
- A small fort easy to miss
- Lagos harbour, guarded and explained
About this tour
This session walks the Forte da Ponta da Bandeira, a small 17th-century fort guarding the entrance to Lagos harbour. You see the drawbridge connecting it to the mainland, then the ramparts looking out over the water it once defended. It is one of the smaller fortifications along this stretch of coast, easy to miss from the promenade.
We check the connection at the drawbridge, then move up to the ramparts for the second stop, taking questions about the fort's history. I send a short note afterwards with what was covered.
It suits anyone interested in coastal defences and the harbour's older history, and travellers walking the promenade who want a closer look at the fort. This session covers the fort's exterior and ramparts, not any interior exhibition rooms.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lagos before heading out.
-
The drawbridge 15 min
The camera crosses the small drawbridge connecting the fort to the mainland, and I explain why a fort this size was enough to guard the harbour entrance.
-
The ramparts 15 min
We move up onto the ramparts overlooking the harbour mouth, and I point out the sightline the fort's cannons once covered.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Lagos: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Cataplana (seafood stew) and Meia Praia, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
