Mauerpark: the wall's strangest afterlife
Highlights
- A death strip turned public park
- Open ground with a changed purpose
- A Sunday market on former border land
- Karaoke where the wall once stood
- Mauerpark's unlikely second life
About this tour
This session walks through Mauerpark, a stretch of former death strip now used as public parkland. You see the open grass where the border once ran, turned over to public use only after reunification. The session finishes on the grounds used for a Sunday flea market and open-air karaoke, about as far from the site's original purpose as a place can get.
We open with a short sound check at the park's edge. I walk slowly across the open ground and take questions about the site's transformation as we go. Afterwards I send a short note on the park's weekend events if your visit lines up with one.
This suits anyone interested in how former border land gets repurposed over time. It also works well as a lighter, shorter session after the more serious Wall Memorial walk.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
