About this tour
This session walks a stretch of Bergamo's Venetian walls, built in the sixteenth century and now a UNESCO World Heritage site. You see the top of the ramparts up close, then reach a viewpoint looking out over the plain below, built to give defenders sight in every direction. It is a short session on military architecture that has become one of the city's best free views.
We start with a sound check on the rampart, since it can be windy at height. I move to the viewpoint for the second stop and take your questions about the walls' history as we go. A short reading list follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in military architecture or wide open views. It also works well paired with a session at the Rocca further along the walls.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bergamo before heading out.
-
Venetian Walls rampart 15 min
The camera follows the top of the sixteenth-century walls, and I explain how they were built by the Venetian Republic and added to UNESCO's World Heritage list in 2017.
-
Walls viewpoint over the plain 15 min
We reach a stretch looking out over the plain below, and I point out how far the walls let a defender see in every direction.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Bergamo: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Polenta e osei (a bakery cake shaped like small birds, named after an older savoury dish) and Borgo Santa Caterina, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Rome time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
