About this tour
This session focuses tightly on the chapel's fan-vaulted ceiling, one of the most studied pieces of Gothic stonework in England, seen from directly underneath rather than from a distance. The camera moves slowly between the nave and the vaulting itself, with an art historian's attention to how the pattern was actually constructed. It is a close study rather than a broad tour.
We start in the nave for the overall proportions, then move beneath the vaulting for the detail. I pause often to let the ceiling sit on screen before explaining anything, since I find viewers want to look before they want facts. Questions about technique and dating tend to dominate, and I answer from my own research where I can.
It suits viewers with a specific interest in Gothic architecture or mediaeval craftsmanship. It also suits anyone who simply wants to spend real time looking at one exceptional ceiling rather than rushing past it.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cambridge before heading out.
-
Chapel nave 21 min
The camera holds on the long, single-span nave, and I explain why the chapel has no supporting pillars breaking up the view from end to end.
-
Fan vault detail 21 min
Pausing directly beneath the ceiling, you see the fan-shaped stone ribs fanning out from each support point, and I point out how the pattern repeats with small variations along the length of the roof.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Cambridge: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Afternoon tea and Chesterton, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
