The Jacobins and Toulouse in art
Highlights
- The Jacobins' palm-tree brick vault
- A Renaissance courtyard built on dye money
- Sculpture kept in an old cloister
- Three centuries of Toulouse architecture
- Carved detail explained up close
About this tour
This session moves through three of Toulouse's finest interiors and courtyards, from the palm-tree vault of the Jacobins to the Renaissance courtyard of the Hôtel d'Assézat and the sculpture garden of the Augustins. You see architecture from three different centuries in a single route. It focuses on detail rather than a general overview of the city.
We spend real time under the Jacobins vault since it photographs and films so well, then move at an easier pace through the other two stops. I answer questions about the woad trade and the monastery's history as they come up rather than covering everything upfront. A short reading list follows the call.
This suits anyone with an interest in architecture or art history, and travellers who prefer depth on a few sites over a wider tour. It pairs well with a walking session covering the rest of the old town.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Toulouse before heading out.
-
Jacobins convent, the palm-tree vault 17 min
The camera looks straight up into the famous vaulted ceiling, ribs fanning out from a single column like the leaves of a palm tree. I explain how the brick vault was built without the stone usually needed for this kind of span.
-
Hôtel d'Assézat courtyard 17 min
We step into the Renaissance courtyard built on the fortune of the woad dye trade, its symmetrical facade and arcaded galleries unusual for the period. I point out the carved detail that marks it as one of the city's finest private houses.
-
Musée des Augustins garden 17 min
The session ends in the cloister garden of the former monastery, now home to a fine sculpture collection kept partly outdoors under the old arcades. I show you which pieces survived the building's conversion after the Revolution.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Toulouse: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Foie gras and Saint-Cyprien, worth a slower look.

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
