The tallest bell tower in the country
Highlights
- The tallest bell tower in the country
- Two periods of building, side by side
- A modern square replacing what came before
- Honest history, explained without exaggeration
- Old town and new square compared
About this tour
This session pairs the tallest religious building in the country with a very different, modern square nearby. You see the Franciscan bell tower rising well above the surrounding rooftops, then the open, contemporary space that replaced whatever stood here before the war. It moves between two very different periods of building.
I explain the tower's height plainly, without turning it into more than it is, then spend longer on how the square's rebuilding reflects choices made across the whole city. Questions about either period are welcome.
This suits anyone who wants Mostar's history explained honestly rather than skirted around. It also suits anyone curious about how a divided city chose to rebuild itself.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

- A short list of places to visit later

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Mostar before heading out.
-
Franciscan Church Bell Tower 21 min
You see the tower rising above the old town's rooftops, built taller than any other in the country, and I explain the decision behind building it to that height in a city already known for another kind of skyline.
-
Spanish Square 21 min
The camera moves to a modern square nearby, and I explain how differently this side of the city was rebuilt after the war compared with the Ottoman-era streets we just left.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Mostar: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Baklava and Old Town, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
