A history planning call before your Maastricht trip
Highlights
- Maastricht's history explained period by period
- The most common visitor questions answered
- A clear list of names and dates
- No live walk, just a proper conversation
- Useful before combining several Dutch cities
About this tour
This is a planning call rather than a walk: we go through what Maastricht's history actually looks like today, period by period, so a future visit makes more sense. I explain which buildings belong to which century and why the city feels different from Amsterdam or Utrecht. You can ask about anything specific you have already read or seen.
We start with an open question about what you already know, then I fill in the gaps in order rather than jumping around. Towards the end I answer whatever has come up along the way and send a short list of names and dates afterwards.
It suits anyone who prefers to understand a place before walking through it rather than during. People combining several Dutch cities in one trip find it especially useful for keeping the history straight.

Itinerary
-
Hello, and what you want to know 5 min
The guide calls you and asks what you are after: planning Maastricht, recommendations, or just questions.
-
What the city holds 15 min
I run through the periods that actually show up in Maastricht's streets, Roman, medieval and Burgundian, so you know what you are looking at before you arrive.
-
Questions I get most 15 min
We go through the questions past viewers have asked me most often about the basilica, the old gate and the fort, so you leave with clear answers rather than guesses.
-
Your questions 7 min
Ask anything that is still on your mind, there is no fixed script.
-
A written note after the call 3 min
You get a short follow-up message with everything mentioned, so you do not have to remember it all.
Good to know
- A stable phone or internet connection, whichever the guide uses to reach you.
- No app to install. You answer when the guide calls, or join a video call if you would rather.
- Times are shown in Amsterdam time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The call is not recorded. Keep your own note of anything you want to remember, or wait for the follow-up message.
- Have your questions ready, though there is time to think of more as you go.

The guide talks you through Maastricht: where to go, what to eat, and answers to whatever you ask.
What happens if the call drops?
The guide will try you again straight away.
Can I ask the guide questions during the session, or is it a fixed script?

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
