About this tour

This session walks the covered market that supplies most of Braga's kitchens, starting with the cheese and bread stalls and finishing at the counter that sells the pork used in the region's heaviest dishes. Catarina, who trained as a cook before guiding, asks the same stallholders questions she has asked for years. You see the produce itself rather than a finished plate.

The call opens with a sound check before Catarina moves into the market, timing her stops so the stalls stay in frame without crowding the shot. She lets the stallholders answer in their own words rather than paraphrasing over them, and questions from viewers come in as she walks. A short list of what she bought and why follows the session.

This suits anyone curious about how a regional cuisine is actually built from its market rather than its restaurants. It also gives a practical grounding for viewers planning their own cooking with Portuguese ingredients.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Braga before heading out.

  2. The cheese and bread hall 21 min

The camera moves along the covered market's stalls, where Minho cheeses sit stacked beside loaves still warm from the oven. Catarina stops at a stall she has bought from for years and asks the seller what changes with the season.

  3. The cured meat counter 21 min

You see strings of sausage and cuts of pork hanging above the counter, central to the region's cooking. Catarina explains how a dish like rojões depends on this counter rather than a restaurant kitchen.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Braga: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pudim Abade de Priscos and Centro Histórico, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
