About this tour

This session looks at Brussels' European quarter from the outside, taking in the Parliament building and the view toward the Cinquantenaire arch. You see the scale of the district's modern architecture set against the older monument nearby, and hear how one grew up around the other. It gives a sense of Brussels as a European capital without needing to go inside a single building.

We start with a sound check outside the Parliament square, since traffic noise can be an issue there. I explain the institutions plainly and without jargon, then move to the second viewpoint for questions about the district's history. A short reading list on the European quarter follows by message afterwards.

It suits anyone curious about the European Union's home city or modern urban planning. It also works well before a longer walk through the surrounding parks.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Brussels before heading out.

  2. European Parliament exterior 21 min

The camera takes in the glass and steel of the Parliament building from the public square outside, and I explain what happens inside on a normal working day.

  3. Cinquantenaire Arch view 21 min

We move to a spot where the Parliament and the Cinquantenaire arch sit in the same view, and I talk through how the district grew around both.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Brussels: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Moules-frites and Îlot Sacré, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Brussels time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
