About this tour

This session walks the public path alongside the Old Course, taking in the closing hole and the small Swilcan Bridge that crosses it. You see the famous view toward the clubhouse and the worn stone of a bridge that predates golf on this ground. Morven explains why this particular strip of coastline became the sport's spiritual home.

After a short sound check near the clubhouse, the walk follows the public path alongside the course, pausing at the bridge for a longer look, with questions welcomed throughout. Morven answers as you go and sends a short note afterwards on the course's public access days.

It suits golf enthusiasts and non-golfers alike who want to understand why this course matters so much. It also works well for anyone curious about a small town shaped so completely by one sport.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of St Andrews before heading out.

  2. The eighteenth hole and the clubhouse 21 min

The camera looks across the famous closing hole toward the clubhouse, a view recognised well beyond golf itself. Morven explains why this stretch of ground carries so much weight in the sport's history.

  3. The Swilcan Bridge 21 min

A small stone bridge crosses a burn on the course, worn smooth by centuries of use. Morven points out how the bridge predates golf on this ground entirely, once used by shepherds and traders.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about St Andrews: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Arbroath smokie and The Scores, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in London time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
