Highlights

  • A natural rock fortress above the village
  • Tunnels that sheltered a whole community
  • Houses built directly against the rock
  • A village shaped by the stone above it
  • Castle and village, closely connected

About this tour

This session covers Uçhisar Castle from the base of the rock and the village lanes built around it. You see the tunnels and openings cut into the fortress itself, then the quieter streets below where houses lean directly against the stone. Together the two stops show how the village and the rock have always been connected.

I begin with a sound check at the base of the castle, then we move into the village while you ask questions about its history. I point out a few houses that use the rock itself as a wall. At the end I send a short note on the history we discussed.

This suits anyone who wants the practical history of the region's rock fortresses rather than only photographs of them. It also suits a traveller planning to see the castle itself and wanting the background first.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cappadocia before heading out.

  2. Uçhisar Castle Base 21 min

The camera looks up at the natural rock fortress rising above the village. I explain how the tunnels and rooms cut into it once sheltered the whole community during periods of danger.

  3. Village Lanes Below 21 min

You follow the quiet lanes at the base of the rock, past houses built directly against it. I point out how the village layout still follows the shape of the rock above it.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Cappadocia: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dried fruit and nuts and Göreme, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.

  • Times are shown in Istanbul time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
