  • A beach built on former shipyard land
  • A district under fifteen years old
  • Oslo's newest waterfront, explained twice over

About this tour

This session walks Tjuvholmen from the Astrup Fearnley Museum's exterior along the waterfront sculpture park to the small beach at the point. You see the museum's sail-shaped roof from outside and a handful of permanent outdoor sculptures along the way. Magnus explains how the whole district was built on former shipyard land.

He moves at an easy pace along the water, since the sculpture park is spread out and each piece deserves its own moment. Questions about the district's rapid development come up often, and he compares it directly to the Opera House session he also runs.

This suits anyone who enjoyed Magnus's Opera House session and wants a second look at Oslo's newer architecture. It also suits anyone interested in outdoor sculpture that needs no ticket to see.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Oslo before heading out.

  2. Astrup Fearnley exterior 21 min

The camera looks up at the museum's sail-shaped glass roof from the plaza outside, and I explain how the building was designed to echo the boats that once used this stretch of harbour.

  3. Waterfront sculpture park 21 min

Walking the public sculpture park along the water, I point out a handful of pieces placed permanently outdoors, free to see at any hour.

  4. Tjuvholmen beach and promenade 21 min

The session ends at the small artificial beach at the point, and I explain how this entire district was built on reclaimed shipyard land within the last fifteen years.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Oslo: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Salmon (laks) and Frogner, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Oslo time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
