Faro's bone chapel, explained with care
Highlights
- A 19th-century monument for reflection
- Built from care, not for shock
- Gilded woodwork in the church nave
- History explained with respect
- One of Faro's most visited interiors
About this tour
This session shows Faro's small Capela dos Ossos, built behind the baroque Igreja do Carmo, followed by the church itself. You see the chapel's walls and then the gilded woodwork of the church in front of it, filmed slowly and without commentary that treats the space lightly. I worked as a verger at the cathedral before guiding, and I bring the same care to this session.
We begin with a quiet sound check outside the chapel, then move through it unhurried before continuing into the church, leaving room for questions throughout. I send a short list of dates and names afterwards.
It suits travellers with a genuine interest in the chapel's history, approached respectfully rather than as a curiosity. This session is filmed calmly throughout and avoids any commentary that treats the space as a spectacle.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Faro before heading out.
-
The chapel walls 15 min
The camera moves slowly along the chapel's walls, and I explain that the arrangement was built in the 19th century as a monument for reflection, and why that history matters to how we look at it.
-
The Carmo church 15 min
We step into the baroque church in front of the chapel, and I point out the gilded woodwork that contrasts so sharply with the plain chapel behind it.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Faro: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dom Rodrigo (egg and almond sweet) and Waterfront, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
