About this tour

This session covers Málaga Cathedral from its unfinished second tower, the source of its nickname La Manquita, to the mixed Gothic and Renaissance interior built over nearly two centuries. You see exactly where the missing tower breaks off and hear the funding dispute usually blamed for it. The two stops move from outside to in, tracing the building's long, uneven construction.

We begin outside at the towers with a short check of the light, then move inside to the nave, pausing to point out where different building phases meet. I answer questions about the unfinished tower in some detail, since that tends to draw the most interest.

This suits anyone drawn to buildings with an unresolved story, and travellers who want the city's central church explained properly. It runs at a steady pace suited to a fuller explanation.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Malaga before heading out.

  2. The unfinished tower 21 min

The camera settles on the cathedral's two towers, one finished and one left visibly incomplete, giving the building its nickname La Manquita, the one-armed lady, and I explain the funding dispute behind the missing tower.

  3. The main nave 21 min

You see the vaulted interior, a mix of Gothic and Renaissance styles built over nearly two hundred years, and I point out details that reveal where one architectural phase ended and another began.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Malaga: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Porra antequerana and Soho, worth a slower look.

  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
