Lavender fields near Velo Grablje
Highlights
- Hillside fields grown for lavender
- A village once built around the trade
- Old distilling buildings, still standing
- Hvar's inland side, rarely shown
- A slower pace away from the coast
About this tour
This session heads inland from Hvar's harbour to the lavender fields near Velo Grablje, a small village once central to the island's lavender trade. You see the hills that make this side of the island suit the crop, the fields themselves in bloom depending on the season, and finally the village's old distilling buildings. It is a completely different pace from the coastal sessions.
We travel and walk stop by stop, taking questions about the lavender trade and the village's history along the way. A short note on what is in season follows once the session ends.
It suits anyone who wants to see Hvar beyond its harbour and beaches. It also suits a booking timed for early summer, when the lavender is at its most visible.

A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Rožata (caramel custard) and Velo Grablje, worth a slower look.
Good to know

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
