  • A relaxed, easy summer walk

About this tour

This session shows Ounasvaara without its winter identity, the same hill I ski explained instead as a green summer trail. You see landmarks that only appear once the snow has cleared. I point out how the slopes double as training ground for runners and cyclists through the warmer months.

We walk at an easy pace, since the trail is gentler without snow underfoot. I take questions on the hill's year-round use, drawing on my own training here outside ski season. The session covers less ground than the winter version but at a more relaxed pace.

This suits anyone visiting outside the ski season who still wants to see the hill properly. It also works as a lighter companion to the full Ounasvaara session.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Rovaniemi before heading out.

  2. The unmarked summer trail 15 min

You see the same ground I ski in winter now green and open as a walking trail. I point out landmarks that only become visible once the snow clears.

  3. The hillside clearing 15 min

The camera reaches a clearing partway up used for training in warmer months, and I explain how the ski slopes double as running and cycling routes for most of the year.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Rovaniemi: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Leipäjuusto with cloudberry jam and Napapiiri, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Helsinki time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
