About this tour

This walk moves through the Tragaea valley, an area of old olive groves and small Byzantine chapels between the island's mountain villages. Manos shows the groves, one of the chapels tucked among the trees, and the village square at Filoti. He explains why so many small churches were built scattered across a single valley like this.

Manos checks his connection at the edge of the grove before walking the path slowly, stopping at the chapel for a closer look at its faded frescoes. He answers questions about the valley's history as he continues toward Filoti. A short list of the chapels and villages seen follows the call.

This suits travellers interested in the island's rural, inland side rather than its beaches. It also works well for anyone planning a longer hike through the valley themselves.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Naxos before heading out.

  2. Into the olive groves 17 min

Manos walks the path between old olive trees that fill the Tragaea valley, some of them said to be centuries old, the camera catching light filtering through the branches.

  3. A small Byzantine chapel 17 min

At a whitewashed chapel tucked among the trees, he points out faded frescoes inside the doorway, explaining how dozens of small churches like this one are scattered across the valley.

  4. The village of Filoti 17 min

Reaching the edge of Filoti, the largest village in the valley, he shows the main square and the marble fountain at its centre, still used by locals collecting water.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Naxos: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Naxian sourdough bread and Chora, worth a slower look.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
