About this tour

This session covers the Capilla Real, from the marble tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella to the gilded screen separating them from the rest of the chapel. You see why the monarchs chose Granada, the final city of the Reconquista, as their resting place. The two stops sit close together, allowing time to look closely at both.

We begin at the tombs with a short check of the light on the marble, then move to the screen, pausing to explain the ironwork's craftsmanship. I answer questions about the monarchs' choice of burial site as we go and send a short note on the chapel's history afterward.

This suits anyone interested in the end of Moorish rule in Spain, and travellers who want the cathedral's neighbouring chapel explained with equal care. It works well paired directly with the cathedral session.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Granada before heading out.

  2. The marble tombs 15 min

The camera holds on the elaborate marble tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, and I explain why they chose Granada, the last city they conquered, as their final resting place rather than anywhere else in Spain.

  3. The chapel screen 15 min

You see the ornate gilded screen separating the tombs from the rest of the chapel, and I point out details in the ironwork that took craftsmen years to complete.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Granada: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Habas con jamón and Sacromonte, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
