About this tour

This session focuses on Villa Koliba, the first building in the Zakopane style, completed in 1892. You see the exterior that caused such debate at the time, then carved details inside on the staircase and ceiling beams. It is a compact look at the single building that started an entire architectural tradition.

We keep this one focused, with a short sound check outside before moving in to look at specific carved details. I explain the debate the design caused and its lasting influence as we go, taking questions throughout.

It suits anyone who has already seen the style around town and wants to understand where it started. It also pairs well with the carved wood session for the fuller picture.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

  • Internet connection
  • Travel to the city

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Zakopane before heading out.

  2. Villa Koliba exterior 15 min

The camera opens outside the first building constructed in the Zakopane style in 1892, and I explain why its design caused such debate when it first appeared.

  3. Interior carved details 15 min

From just inside, you see carved woodwork on the staircase and ceiling beams, details that set the template for the style across the whole town afterwards.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Zakopane: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Kielbasa and Centrum, worth a slower look.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
