The Temple of Augustus and Rome, on camera
Highlights
- A wall carrying an imperial inscription
- Text surviving almost two thousand years
- Columns marking the original footprint
- A building adapted across centuries
- One inscription, explained in detail
About this tour
This short session focuses on the Temple of Augustus and Rome, built for the imperial cult and later carrying a long inscription of the emperor's own account of his rule. You see the surviving wall with the inscription, then the columns and foundations marking the rest of the building. The session stays close to this one site rather than covering the wider old city.
I start with a sound check facing the inscription, then we move around the foundations while you ask questions about the text and its history. I explain a section of the inscription in more detail than most descriptions bother to. At the end I send a short written note on what we covered.
This suits anyone with a specific interest in Roman inscriptions and imperial history. It also works well alongside a session at the neighbouring mosque for a fuller picture of the site.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Ankara before heading out.
-
Temple Wall Inscription 15 min
The camera holds on the surviving stretch of wall carrying part of an inscription of Emperor Augustus's own account of his achievements. I explain how the text has survived close to two thousand years.
-
Temple Foundations 15 min
You see the remaining columns and foundations marking the temple's original footprint. I point out how the building was later adapted for other uses over the centuries.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Ankara: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ankara pears and Ulus, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
