The Roman Stadium, beneath the street
Highlights
- A stadium buried beneath a street
- Ancient seating, seen through glass
- Roman Plovdiv, mostly unexcavated
- A modern street over an old one
- Two cities, one stretch of pavement
About this tour
This session shows the Roman Stadium, largely buried beneath Plovdiv's main pedestrian street. You see the exposed seating visible through a section of pavement, then walk the modern street above, tracing how far the ancient structure extends beneath it. The session stays along this single stretch.
We open with a short sound check above the exposed section. I keep a warm, informative pace and take questions about how much of the stadium remains unexcavated as we go. Afterwards I send a short note on its likely full extent.
This suits anyone with a serious interest in Roman history. It also works well paired with the Ancient Theatre session.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
