Via Maqueda's wrought-iron balconies
Highlights
- Wrought-iron balconies along a historic street
- Baroque facades above modern shopfronts
- A street in use since the sixteenth century
- Palermo's two main streets meeting ahead
- A longer walk through the old town's spine
About this tour
This session walks a stretch of Via Maqueda, one of Palermo's two main historic streets, taking in the wrought-iron balconies and baroque facades that line it. You see how old architecture and everyday shopfronts sit directly on top of each other. The route stays on this one public street throughout.
I walk at a steady pace, stopping under a few of the more striking balconies along the way, and take questions as they come. Near the crossroads I pause for a wider shot before sending a short note on the street's layout afterwards.
It suits anyone who wants a longer, more detailed walk through the old town's main artery. It also sets up a Quattro Canti or Fontana Pretoria session that follows on naturally.

As the street approaches the crossroads, the camera widens to show how Via Maqueda and Corso Vittorio Emanuele meet at the centre of the old town.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
